That's really weird

That sounds almost generated, a bit Gran Turismo 4 like.
I’m not fully aware of GTLM/IMSA rules, but maybe this is the result of running a very low rotational mass engine, with some sort of flywheel energy harvesting device (so a mild hybrid maybe?)

I’m not either, but that sounds really plausible

Yeah it’s a bit jarring

Dont think any hybrid systems are allowed this year in the GT categories...

I’m good with it. My guess is that’s about 1/3 revs. They aren’t going to dry rev a race engine to the red line and we’re probably talking about an exotic transmission here with almost 0 flywheel mass.

flat plane crank with an ultra-light flywheel

Readin g the headline, I was expecting that someone had a hold my beer moment and grenaded a cold engine.

Interesting. Also no mild hybrid? Because moving to 48V is starting to become more commonplace in production cars, and would make a lot of sense with endurance racers (high power star ter, using energy recuperated when slowing into the pits)

running up the revs in neutral with no transmission rotational mass and no road load will cause this sort of thing. I do love how radical of a departure this engine is from the C7.R.

No hybrids at all. The reason is that the race car should be based on the street car. So if the street car has no hybrid, then the racecar won’t either.

Race engines can do that

I mean I’d expect it from a n F1 engine, but it’s not what I associate with a Corvette

Sounds nothing like the C7Rs did. Sounds much more like the 458 GTLM cars.

Light flywheels do that for race cars. It’s very normal

I know exactly why it doesn’t sound like the C7.R. And I love it for that reason.
